About Ronald McDonald House Charities

The Family Rooms

Any visit to the hospital with a sick child can be stressful to the parents and family. Knowing first hand the impact and stress caused to families during this time, the Ronald McDonald House of Spokane has created a haven for kids and their families right within the walls of the Sacred Heart Children's Hospital.

"We care about keeping families together when they need each other the most," said a former Family Room Coordinator.

Each room is equipped with a kitchenette and family lounge area. The fourth floor family room also has a washer, dryer and four sleeping rooms for family members.

Accompanying a sick child in the hospital is an enormous disruption of family life. A bit of home-away-from-home is the goal of the Ronald McDonald Family Rooms.

The Family Rooms offer families of children undergoing treatment comforts of home to help lessen the stress and frustration of the hospital environment.

Families can escape the hospital atmosphere and enjoy a nap in a sleeping room, cook a light snack, read a book or simply kick back in a cozy arm chair just like home. They can regroup in the comforts of the Family Room, if only briefly, while remaining near a sick loved one.

These rooms are available to any family with a child receiving care at Sacred Heart Medical Center with no restrictions. This has allowed us to serve families living in Spokane as well as those staying at our main house who live outside of Spokane.
